First Steps Glynn & McIntosh (a partnership with Southeast Georgia Health System): Each mom who delivers a baby at SGHS is eligible to receive services from the First Steps program. Following the mother’s approval, a staff person goes into the hospital room and gives the new mom a package of information on helpful topics for new parents. They are also able to help explain what is normal for the baby and the mom as they recover from the trauma of delivering. Our staff speaks with the parents, answers questions and makes referrals if a need is uncovered. A volunteer then follows up with phone calls for three months after the baby is born to ensure the family is receiving all the care and services they need.
